Sherlock looks at John with admiration. It’s like a realization: ‘you’re the only one who understands me, the only one who is there for me. I don’t want to live without you.”

Holmes on the other hand has a more lost look I think. It’s more to the point of a plee. ‘please don’t leave me. I need you. you’re the only one I’ve got. Without you I’m nothing.’

But in both their looks you see the love they have for their partner.
